Whats Next?

This blog was started with hopes that it would get people thinking about what it means to be a citizen of this country. What role do we play in the big picture of government? Lately, I don't think we play much of a role at all. We elected a new President, who is already overwhelmed with the severity of what all of us are up against. The bail out program, who should really get the money and how much more will the government have to come up with?
We all see the newspapers, the nightly news, we turn on our computers and see the front page of MSN, Yahoo, AOL, the picture is bleak, frustrating, sad, whatever word you come up with is exactly what we are all feeling.

I woke up at 1:30 am thinking about the people of this country. I tried to roll over and put it out of my mind, so I could go back to sleep. But unfortunately I can't, so here I sit putting this message out to the blog sphere. Hoping that one person will read it and send the link to others.
I am not a political activist, I am a mother, a wife, a grandmother, an aunt and most importantly a citizen of this country. I am asking the same questions that each of you ask, "what is in store for all of us?" Dire times are ahead for all of us. There is no sugar coating this one, we all need to open our eyes and get busy.

We need to get back to what works, and that is neighbors helping neighbors. What has happened to that concept? I went through Katrina and I saw first hand the spirit of loving thy neighbor and coming together as a country. Now more than ever we need to have that same spirit. Let's all jump in and do our part. Here it is folks, many need our help right now, but for most there isn't money to spare. So what's next? We go back to the time when people bartered, when neighbors helped by sharing their skills. No one is looking for a handout, but we are looking for help not welfare.

The people of this country have gone through hard times before and we can do it now. Fortunately for us we are not like the people who went through the Great Depression, we have this wonderful way to communicate, the Internet. The question is, what do we communicate?
Let's get focused, we cannot continue to watch the foreclosures, the unemployment rate climbing higher, we need to make a change. This country is for the people and by the people, so let's roll up our sleeves and get creative.

So here it is folks, let's get enough people joining hands across this country that can offer something, anything, what skill set do you have? Baking bread, electrician, cabinet builder, sewing, auto repair, whatever it is let's sign up. Right now across this country there are many children that need to have Christmas. Parents are wondering how they are going to do this. Many have hit the limit on credit cards, many are unemployed, I can assure you, many are hitting depression and they need our help. The woodworker can build a doll house, in exchange someone can build him a website for his business. A mother is working two jobs and doesn't have the time or money for Christmas cookies, a mother or grandmother in Iowa loves to bake, in exchange for someone teaching her how to sell on Ebay. Do you get the point? Let's go citizens, we can do this, we can make our country stronger by helping others.

I need suggestions, I need your talent, I need citizens with compassion. This is exactly what our country was founded on. We can't give up, we cannot sit by while our neighbors are suffering. We may not solve all the problems of the world, but we can help to make this country stronger.
Jump in America, let's show what we're made of. The government cannot fix each individuals needs. They can't even fix the bickering between the two parties. Let's all get involved, and maybe through this movement the government will fall in line.
